When you improve the aesthetics of your living space, you ultimately boost how much you enjoy spending time there. But while getting ready to create an entirely new aesthetic is exciting, there’s one important thing to keep in mind: your budget.
Remodeling Your Living Room on a Budget
Here are six projects that will transform your living room into a new place to spend time, all without breaking the bank:
1. Redo the molding or trim.
The trim or crown molding is a small but important element that catches the eye when you walk into the living room. Even by installing new molding along your living room ceiling, you can change the mood of the entire room.
Crown molding isn’t always a job for amateurs, so don’t be shy about calling one of our handymen at One Man & A Toolbox. We know what we’re doing when it comes to molding and trim, and we’ll always put our best foot forward for you.
2. Incorporate built-in bookshelves.
Bookshelves are an automatic focal point for the room, and if you’d like to add a completely new one for your living room, incorporate built-in bookshelves. These types of bookshelves help run-of-the-mill homes look customized—but they can also be a bit tricky to install if you don’t have experience with carpentry.
You might choose to give us a call, or you might choose to purchase a few plain bookcases from IKEA and install them next to each other with a bit of molding added to make them look completely unique.
3. Install or update wood flooring.
By ripping up old flooring and refreshing the room from the ground up, you create a completely new vibe. Adding new wood flooring doesn’t just open up the space and help the room take a breath of fresh air; it can also add value to your home as a whole.
4. Add a fresh coat of paint.
If you’ve had the same boring paint color since you moved in, it might be time to liven up the place with an accent wall or paint the entire room something invigorating and exciting. A fresh coat of paint can do wonders for the living room.
5. Invest in new furniture.
You don’t need any special skills to incorporate new furniture into your living room—you just have to know what you want to buy. If you get rid of furniture that’s far past its prime, you’ll automatically bring your living room into the present.
There’s no need to get rid of everything and start completely from scratch—that might send you over budget. But adding a floor lamp or replacing a dingy coffee table can do more for your space than you might expect.
6. Knock down walls.
If you want a floor plan for your living room that’s more open, there might not be anything stopping you from knocking down walls and making that happen. (We say “might not be” because it’s important to do research before you just start knocking down walls—make sure you’re not toppling over a load-bearing wall, because that could be disastrous and quite costly.)
By knocking down a wall, you can open up the space and create a whole new room with one simple task.
